Relative Pronoun Clause

(a) The number of people who enjoy mountaineering on weekends is increasing.

(b) The number of people is increasing who enjoy mountaineering on weekends.

I think that (a) is 'normal,' but is (b) still possible? Which would you use, (a) or (b)? And, why?

Top answer

The relative clause in (b) cannot be separated from the noun "people", so I would say it's not possible in writing.

Correct. (a) is 'normal'. (b) is 'possible'.

I'd use (a). Why? Because it's normal. (You could have figured that out, right?)
