Relative pronoun

-An extract From NZ Herald

The number of reported beehive thefts nationally now reaches more than 400 in the latest six-month recorded period (July 2016 to January 2017), much of which is reported during the honey-producing season from October to February.

If the 'which' refers to the reported beehive thefts, aren't them countable and should it be 'many of which are'?

Thank you for helping

The number of reported beehive thefts nationally reached more than 400 in the latest six-month recorded period (July 2016 to January 2017), many of which were reported during the honey-producing season from October to February. This version is still a little odd, because the period of July 2016 to January 2017 does not contain a complete honey-producing season (October to February).
