can we omit the relative pronoun in this sentence and make it shorter? "I have a friend who teaches english"..."I have a friend teaching english"

Only when ( a) the clause is non-defining and ( b) there is a helping verb "be" and (optionally) a participle (present / past) in the relative clause's verb phrase.
