Relative Clause Question

Hi everyone.

Here is a multiple choice question that I couldn't find the correct answer. I need a brief explanation about it.

Bennett's novel The Old Wives' Tale is the one ---- he is likely to be best known by posterity.

A) of which
B) for whom
C) by which
D) in which
E) that

As you can see, there are some prepositions used with relative pronouns. I found it tricky. Need help. Thanks.

Prepositions are very idiomatic. The idiomatic expression here is
someone is known by something.
eg I am known by my first name.

So, choose C.

Thanks for the answers.

someone is known by something is a good example, but at the end of the sentence there is already an expression used with by "known by posterity." So where does the first "by" before the relative pronoun exactly belongs to? I'm confused.

Of which would refer to something that is part of a larger set.
"Bennett wrote several books, one of which is called The Old Wives' Tale."
Whom always refers to a person, not a thing.
"John is the one for whom the book was intended."
In which would refer to something contained in something else.
"This is the book

Consider this simpler example.

I am known by my first name by my friends.

The second 'by' simply heads an additional prepositional phrase.
