Relative clause

Hello,

1. I know a man. He takes his responsibilities seriously.

I have to join these two sentences using a relative pronoun.

1a) I know a man who/that takes his responsibilities seriously.

2a) I know the man who/that takes his responsibilities seriously.

In the original sentence we have 'a man'.

shall I keep the 'a man' or change it into 'the man' ?

Thanks.
