relative adverb 'when'

"It seems to me that it is really difficult to remember, but I can recall one of an unusually cold and snowy days of winter when I was a primary school student, and all of a sudden, I had missed the school bus, so I had to walk a pretty long distance back home from school."

Hello All,
Is the use of relative pronoun 'when' is correct?! or I should write as below:
"but I can recall one of an unusually cold and snowy days of winter when all of a sudden, I had missed the school bus when I was a primary school student."
I mean when we use 'when' we should mention one specific time or place( when I had missed the school bus) or we can use the entire time (when i was a primary school).
