Really? I think in most families both partners would "claim" each other's nieces and nephews. (I just checked this with my husband, and he says he would describe my neices as his neices.) And yet, I never thought of my husband's Aunts and Uncles as "my" Aunts and Uncles. Maybe it's because neices and neph

There does seem to be some reciprocity in the arrangement: the niece or nephew would probably

consider both members of the of the couple in question as aunt and uncle, not just the one who is the closest blood relative. Perhaps, then, it does make sense that both members of the couple in question should consider that other person to be their niece or nephew.
