relationship

How to say this formally (perhaps to your superior)
My take:

I had to take 2 months off to handle relationship issues. Now that everything is resolved, I'm reading to take on more responsibilities.

(Situation : I had big problems with my girlfriend )

Thanks in advance.

" It doesn't seem very realistic. You just pop in after a two-month absense and finally explain why you've been gone? You're describing yourself as a person who has very great difficulty in managing his personal affairs, and you walk in and ask for a promotion?

I'd say "a personal matter."

I think the right context is the manager is new to the company and he joined the company during my absense so he wondered who I was. The original reponse kicked in.

I'm with Avangi here. In the US, you probably wouldn't have a job to return to, and your supervisor would laugh his **** off if to hear you want a promotion. More realisitc: I had to take some time off to address some personal matters, but now that I'm back, I'm ready to prove myself to you again. You can be assured of top-notch performance from me from this day forward.

I see the problem. You interpret "take on more responsibilites" as a promotion? That's not what I wanted to say. I mean't I'm serious about getting my job done and the problems which has been resolved will not hurt my performance. Sorry for the poor choice of words.

You can be assured that I am completely committed to my work responsiblities and that you'll see nothing but top-tier performance from me.
