Regular and modal verb questions

Hi.

1. Would this use of the modal verb "would" be correct in a simple children's writing? What this modal use denote? Does it denote what he or she usually does in a some prolonged time in the past like "He would play table tennis well when he was young"?

It was raining. He would go shopping. He was happy when he met his aunt the other day.

2. Would you say the use of present perfect isn't correct when we have such phrases like "before she moved to China" or "before the last encounter"? I think it would be incorrect to write "He has been studying two years ago." Does any of the previous examples follow the suit?

3. Is this correct? Or should we use the verb "do"?

He does a better job of writing than I would (do?).
