Can I say,

He was regretful of his trick.

He was regretful of what he had done / what he did to the villagers.

He was regretful of telling lies. / ...regretful of lies.

Hi Vincent,

I could be wrong, but I think "of " is the wrong preposition. We say "respectful of," "mindful of," but I usually hear "regretful / remorseful about etc."
