00 It seems to me that "say goodbye" can occur in the same register as "bid farewell". But if "fare well" is taken as an imperative, addressed to the departing party, and "goodbye" as a subjunctive, addressed to ***, there does seem to be a conflict between the latter and "bid". 02 br
