Regardless of& notwithstanding
Hello,
I've got a question on the usage of the two phrases regardless of& notwithstanding.
There are two sentences like this:
1. Sitting in front of a screen for too long can be damaging to both the eyes and the physical posture of a young child, regardless of what they are using the computer for.
2. Notwithstnading the disappointing results, it is our contention that the strategies were not in vain.
In these two sentences, both the phrases regardless of & notwithstanding are used here, and I wonder if the two phrases express the same meaning as in spite of and is there any differences between these two phrases on the usage?

I don't see "regardless of" to have the meaning of "in spite of". In your sentence the meaning is probably closer to "without taking into account". ("regardless of" used as "in spite of") 1.
