Regardless

Question

If 'regardless' means 'without care' then what does the phrase 'I'm going to that party regardless' mean? Does it mean 'anyway'?

Regardless means without regard for, so, in the case of, "I'm going to the party regardless," there is an implication that it is regardless of what someone else would like me to do, or regardless of the fact that I should be at work, or regardless of the fact that I don't need to be associating with the people that will be at the party, or regardless of the fact that I should be studying for an exam, or....endless possibilities of what one is disregarding when choosing to go to the party "regardless."

(And, just with a wink, when one chooses to do something "regardless," it not infrequently leads to tears or regrets, so perhaps those moments of decision warrant a bit more soul-searching.)
