Regarding third person "s"

Sentence: I would be dumbfounded if the court accepts his defense.

Question: Do I need to put "s" at the end of word "accept" in the sentence? If yes, why? Is not the word coming after the verb "would", therefore, "s" should not come there?

Thanks

Yes, the '-s' is required. 'Would' is irrelevant. Subjunctive forms (3rd person singular with no '-s') occur with certain verbs and adjectives of volition: The court demanded that he accept their decision.
