Regarding preposition: in and at

Question

When we are inside our home we say "I am at home" . Note the preposition at here.

But I heard one person, who speaks good English, saying "sit in his home and abuse people online". Why would be use preposition in here and not at?

You can say it both ways.

I am at home.

He is at home.

I sit at home.

He sits at home.

'At home' is just one of number of idiomatic phrases we use (eg at school, at work).

The speaker may have felt that 'in his home' sounded a little more emphatic, in his particular context. Perhaps it does, because it makes the reader think just a little more about what is being said than if he had used the standard idiom.
