I think not, particularly in view of what is being talked about. The meaning will be the listener's focus.

This is the way I would phrase it:

There are a lot of things in our relationship that hurt me when I think about them.

I wouldn't call it natural but it is understood. My take is, Things - sounds dead. Maybe this : We have too many unpleasant memories in our relationship that hurt

In my opinion, it's the slight awkwardness of the original that makes it sound natural as spoken English.
