Regarding formation of question

Is it right to use "did" in this question. "Did you face the dilemma when you used that term ?"

Thanks

Top answer

"Did" is fine. " the dilemma" is OK if you are referring to a dilemma that has previously been mentioned; otherwise it should be " a dilemma". You do not need a space before the question mark.

I'm wondering if the past continuous might have worked better. [Were you facing the dilemma when you used that term?] It's hard to tell, with no given context.
