Regarding comma

Hi. I am wondering why there is a comma in one of the sentences below. I saw the two sentences in the same grammar point lesson. But, I don’t know why one of the sentences needs a comma and the other doesn’t.

Here are the two sentences.

He left the country, never to return.
I awoke to find the house on fire.
