Regarding a use of expression.

Sentence:"Market experts and journalists are indeed the most informed and intellegent people in the world/on the planet"

My question: What is a difference between these expressions "in the world" and "on the planet"? Are they same? Are both correct in the sentence? I mean I'll use one expression, but want to know both are correct in the sentence or not and have same meaning or not?

They are the same meaning. 'In this world' is more common, so 'on this planet' injects more hyperbole.
