Regarding a right use of a word

Sentence: "Painful to see excellent columnist like him doing acts of fifth columns/fifth columnists in the name of freedom of expression"

My question/doubt: What would be the right choice of word in the above sentence, fifth columns or fifth columnists ?

Thanks

(I changed 'columnist' to 'journalist' for style-- to avoid using 'columnist' twice.)

I thought he intentionally wanted to use 'columnist' twice so as to make a pun.

If so, it doesn't work: it just makes the sentence clunky.

I have a question though synonym of fifth columns is trojan horses according to the word web dictionary. What if we replace fifth columints with trojan horses ? Will it still make the sentence wrong ? Here it's for example : "It is painful to see an excellent journalist like him acting like a trojan horses in the name of freedom

No, use your original sentence (corrected version).
