Regarding a preposition "by" and "from"

Sentence: "What a masterstroke from/by him"

My question/doubt: What would be the right preposition in this sentence, "by or from" ? Guess, should be "from" but need it your help/confirmation.

Thanks

  • " without the specification of the doer.
  • Instinct says "from" but "by" doesn't sound wrong either.

Hmm. Good question. I tend to see this as "What a masterstroke!" without the specification of the doer. Instinct says "from" but "by" doesn't sound wrong either.
