Regard and regarding

Hi! this a question I have to do:
I want to connect two sentences, the first one states a desire, and the second one states that the first one will happen only if some requirements are met.
I am not sure about what connector shall I use (I'm thinking in "regarding" as a conector)

Here are the two sentences:
We could start an academic relationship (only if) I am accepted by the University.

Thanks for your help.
jesse.

Hi Jesse,

Here's my suggestion:

"We could only start an academic relationship if I'm accepted to study at the University."

'In regards to' and 'regarding' function as prepositions and need a noun or noun phrase as an object, Jesse. They mean 'on the topic of', 'concerning'. They do not work as conjunctions, or in expressing cause and effect.

I can work it into your sentences, but it is an awkward way to express the idea:

'Regarding an academic relationship, it would possible only if I am accepted
