refused/denied/sitting on their haunches/squatting

I asked him for $ 5,000 but he refused/denied to give me, so I got angry at him and I beat him up.

She is very reserved and conservative. I often see her conservatively dressed.

I saw many people sitting on their haunches/squatting on the platform waiting for the train.
