Do I say,

1 Her mother wanted Marry to apply the sunblock but she rejected. / rejected it.

2 Her mother wanted Marry to apply the sunblock but she refused./... but she refused to do it.

1) Her mother wanted Marry (Mary?) to apply the sunblock but she rejected it. (i.e., rejected the sunblock. "I don't want it! Take it away!).
2) Her mother wanted Marry to apply the sunblock but she refused. (Fine)
2) Her mother wanted Marry to apply the sunblock but she refused to do it. (Also fine)
#1 is less likely than either version of #2 in everyday sp
