refrain/restrain

Hello,
Are both examples natural: "Restrain yourself from smoking in this area/Refrain from smoking in this area"? The latter sounds better to me, but is the first one grammatical?

I guess it is. I realize that it's meaning is different. What does it suggest to you? Refrain is often used in announcements and signs.

Restrain yourself sounds like "Get hold of yourself, control yourself!"
