I know how to use reflexive pronouns but I was writing something today and came across what seems like a possible exception. Of course "seems" is the key word here. I know I could rewrite what I said to use "myself" and know it is correct, but I am curious now if my use might be an actual exception.
I wrote:
"I have recorded many of my song ideas. These recorded ideas are just a few chords, a melody line or just a short jam with myself."
This seems like it is ok because of it being used with "jam" or maybe in this case because I referenced myself in the preceding sentence. But technically it seems that it is not correct because I have not referenced myself previously in the sentence containing the reflexive pronoun "myself".
I could have written: "These recorded ideas are just a few chords, a melody line or just a short jam I did with myself." or "These recorded ideas are just a few chords, a melody line or just a short solo jam." or "These recorded ideas are just a few chords, a melody line or just me making a short jam with myself." or "These recorded ideas are just a few chords, a melody line or just me jamming with myself"
What do you think? Is my original use ok based on some exception or implied "me" or 'I' ???
Thanks!
Randy
