Reflexive

Hello,

I am wondering if my understanding of reflexive is correct: People did this to feel good about themselves. Is 'themselves' correct in this instance?

2) Some of them were happy while the others were sad.
I take it 'the others' is used when comparing with other things or people. Otherwise, others is used without the article 'the.' Is this correct?

3) Is 'marked' used in the same way as 'distinguished'. Example: he marked the right stuff from what had been wrong so far.

4) Do we need a comma here: He was happy one minute and sad the next.

Regards,

1. 'Themselves' is correctly used as a reflixive. It might also be considered to be reciprocal (feeling good about each other).
