reflect onto/off

I don't know, is reflect what I should use?

1 It's hard taking pictures of people in a club, all the florescent light reflect onto/off the people, and they turn out to be a funny color.

2 The mirror reflected light onto the wall.

In example 2: X reflect light onto Y. This I understand.
In example 1 : X reflects onto the Y. This I don't think is possible or is it?

Thank you in advance
