If someone is saying something like:
Mom and dad said that they would tell baby "No"....
Would the word no need to be capitalized?

Dear Lakotajm, I have never seen a rule for this, but I think that the convention is to keep it lower case. It's what I have always done. In your case, it's not a real quote, but rather a hypothetical one (if that makes sense).

Dear Lakotajm,

I have never seen a rule for this, but I think that the convention is to keep it lower case. It's what I have always done.

In your case, it's not a real quote, but rather a hypothetical one (if that makes sense).

e.g. The photographer told us to smile and say "cheese".

Kind regards

Michael

P.S. We all then said : "Cheese!"

This is now a real quote.
