Refer to a graph.

Is it okay to say:
"In the figure above you can see....."
I want to refer to a picture that shows some econometric regression.

Like "In the figure above one can get a first glimpse of the relationship between economic standards and infrastructural performance."

This kind of verbosity is CALP, not suitable for ordinary conversation, aka BICS. CALP is pendantic and boring, use: 'This picture shows...'
