Reel in

Hi,

What is the opposite of 'reel in'? I was watching an episode of MASH where Radar stuck a rod through the gap in the door of Henry's office to give Henry a document because he didn't want to be in the same room with him. When Henry signed the document, Radar reeled it back in. What verb would I use to describe how he got the document to Henry (something along the lines of 'release')?

"Lighting firecrackers in the morning on 31 December kind of strips New Year's Eve of the point."

Could 'strip of the point' be used?

Thank you.

  • I don't know what Radar did, exactly, but you cast a line with a rod and reel, and then you reel it in.

I would say no. It would have to be "its point", anyway, but even then the metaphor "strip" has too much life in it to apply to a point to my way of thinking, and the point of New Year's Eve, whatever that might be, is n
