Reducing relative clauses with quantifiers

a. I have suffered four cases of abdominal pain, one severe enough to send me into hospital.

Are the bolded words a reduced relative clause and reduced from this:

b. I have suffered four cases of abdominal pain, one of which was severe enough to send me into hospital.

Are these acceptable versions also?

Which is best?

c. I have suffered four cases of abdominal pain, one of them severe enough to send me into hospital.

d. I have suffered four cases of abdominal pain, one so severe that is sent me into hospital.

Thank you

Hi,

yes it is. But I don't feel this one is reduced from the same original. I think this one is a reduced relative clause while the other one, as you said, is reduced from another main clause. Would you not agree?

ClivePersonally, let me add this.

I understand what you mean. I guess I just don't know what reduced sentences are grammatical. That is, how can one tell? Sometimes there are missing verbs, sometimes missing subjects, sometimes missing or different relative pronouns.
CliveC is OK, and correct grammar. D is not correct grammar

Hi,

Such things are not easy to learn. Really, I'd say it's a matter of reading a lot of Engish and being patient.

Remember that you don't have to produce such statements. You just have to understand them, which I think you can do fairly well.
