Reducing a relative clause here

Can we reduce in the 1st but not the 2nd?

The worst shake happened in X, just thirty minutes from Y.

The worst shake happened in X, which is just thirty minutes from Y.

We walked all the way across the field, which was exhausting.

We walked all the way across the field, exhausting.
