Reduces the problems/problem?

Hello.
Which one is correct(The paper challenges two widely held beliefs)?
By claiming that efficiency and flexibility are actually intermingled, the paper practically reduces the problems to one.

I think the first one "......paper practically reduces the problems to one" is OK.

Yes, problems.

What do you mean by 'practically'?

In practice, not in theory

'A paper' sounds rather theoretical, so I don't find the idea of 'in practice' fits well there.

Can you just drop the word 'practically'?

Problems.

I would probably replace "practically" with "in essence" or "essentially."

Idioms:

in essence
By nature; essentially

essentially

adv
1. in a fundamental or basic way; in essence
