Reduced or shrunk

Dear all

I have to decide wich word best fit in the following sentence.

After harversting the beans are treated with heat or hot water and are placed in the sun every day for many weeks. When they have ...... to a fifth of their original size, they are classed according size and quality,

a) reduced

b) shurnk

c) diminished

d) lessened

I´m not able to make a decision between a) and b).

Could you please adivse and explain?

'Shrunk' is correct. 'Reduced' is transitive, so it would have to appear in passive form in your sentence: 'When they have been reduced to...'
