Reduce someone to

If someone says « He’s just a scorer. He doesn’t do anything else on the field. »

Someone else responds

« Don’t reduce him to just a goal scorer. He’s more than that. He can defend and pass the ball well. »

Is the use of reduce him to » natural? Would there be another way to phrase it?

thanks
