Description I came to Canada from China 3 years ago but still haven't got rid my accent completely. My native language is Cantonese and it's really annoying to repeat myself more than twice to my friends all the time. The weird thing is when I talk I don't hear my own accent at all! I can pronounce almost each word correctly and read sentences out right. Yet when I try to speak casually I can't communicate smoothly. I tried to slow down the speed I talk and it helped me a bit.
Point Form Came to Canada about 4 years ago Difficulty of communication in casual conversation Can pronounce words correctly when spoken individualy Want to reduce my accent / To speak in neutral accent
Unusual Things My friends who were used to be in ESL (English as a second language) class picked up the language faster than me People told me my accent was neutral but that was when I didn't use the correct grammar in speech I used to be good at speaking in public but in recent years I became very weak at it and for the first time I feel fear speaking in front of audiences
