Red carpet treatment
Hi,
I'm translating from Arabic into English. In Arabic we have an idiom which literally translates to "he is treated as if there is a feather on his head". It means that the persons receives a special treatment just for being of a certain nationality or for being blue-blooded or so. I'm looking for an English equivalent and I came across "to get the red carpet treatment", but it just doesn't belong to the context I'm translating, plus, I'll have to explain what the red carpet is to the readers in a footnote since it will be given to Arabic-speaking English students, which will absolutely kill the picture. My question is, what other idioms or proverbs do you know to talk about people who receive special treatment? The thing is I have to find a metaphorical picture and just explain what that phrase means! Thanks!

We "handle" a person or thing "with kid gloves" when we take special care that things go smoothly.

Thanks, Philip, but I think your sentence has a pretty positive meaning while the idiom I'm looking for should be disapproving somehow.

We tiptoe around a thing or person we don't want to stir up. We walk on eggshells when we are afraid of causing offense. We coddle (or baby) a person we think cannot stand any sort of roughness. "Mollycoddle", even more so.
