Red car or truck?

If I say I want a red car or truck does that mean I want a red car or a red truck? If I didn't want to say that wouldn't I need another verb e.g., I want a red car or I want a truck. Is there some sort of rule on this? I don't know what to search on Google and I'm looking for a legitimate website that explains this better.

There is no rule for this. I believe that in most conversations, the concept of 'red' will transfer to 'truck' as well. Common sense and intuition have a place in language!
