Along the river the setting sun its light shed,
Leaving the surface half dark green and half deep red.

They are two lines from a poem translated by someone, I don't think the word "deep red" depict the scence correctly? Am I right?

My choice is "flaming red", of which I'm not sure.

I'm sure Shakespeare would agree with you, Inchoate, but what about the rhyme? Shed/crimson doesn't suit, unless crimson red is what you're thinking of. If that's the case, I do agree with you myself.
