Recover

Hello teachers,

Suppose I hurt my knee very badly and someone asks how I am doing or how my knee is doing ?

So can I say it both ways, "My knees recovering well" OR "I am recovering well."

When any part of the body is hurt can I refer to myself instead of that part of the body?

Thank you.
