Record (play)???

Hi

An author of a book writes about meditation and what influence the music has on meditation. The author writes:

If you want to seriously begin working with music as a spiritual tool, I recommend that you record (or have a partner who can play) various sustained tones while you are in deep meditation, allowing you to experiment with what works best for you. Be sure to record your findings, along with any other pertinent information about each specific session, in your journal or other record book so you can see your own pattern emerging.

Does the word "record" mean here the same as "play"? Because if not, how can you record something while you're meditating? That doesn't makes sense to me.

Right. The writer is an idiot. He should spend less time meditating and more time editing. He meant you should record the tones before you meditate and play them back during meditation.
