reconcile quality and thrift

Could you tell me if this paragraph makes sense and is it correct?
I find that it is hard to reconcile 'quality' and 'thrift'. They want use to make a gourmet dish while spending as little as possible. Make sure your thriftness doesn't take away from the quality of the dish/doesn't come at the expense of the quality of the dish.
