Recommend a book

Hello, can anyone recommend me an English novel? It'd better be a contemporary fiction with a littel sense of humor. I'm now learning English. It could be great helpful, thank you! !

I've checked Ken Follett's books you mentioned. They are all about some acient (middle ages?) story and very remarkable. I'll put "Pillars of the Earth" in my list .
