recital?

what word is used for expressing a person reciting a poem or text with feeling and emotion. (not monotonous reading, or just reading text). I think it might be recital, but it seems that recital is also used for people playing musical instruments....

And how about if the reader/speaker/reciter is reciting/narrating a piece of literature with lots of feeling? I believe the term' a reading' is often used for this, partciularly when the author is reading his own work.

"a reading" doesn't sound to grand though, it seems not to convey any kind of feeling. When I hear "let's go hear a reading of <book title>" I would feel that it was normal, like someone reading a bedtime story and not that the literature had a deeper moving feeling if I went to hear it.
