Reciprocity

I think this word is one of the variations from ' reciprocate '.

eg. When someone asks for a favor, it is always better to show some reciprocity either you want to help or not. ( I wonder if my example is OK ???

A couple of lines in a song I once heard go:

And though there's no reciprocity,
You give your love to me.

"No reciprocity" means that the act is not reciprocated. That is, in the above example, the addressed person in the song loves the singer, but the converse is not true. If they had both loved each other there would have been reciprocity.

Gosh, this singer must have felt really unhappy when he sang the song. Maybe the singer was lying to himself/herself? Maybe he should have sang " Lucy in the sky with diamonds", it would probably be more his/her style.

On the contrary, the singer was an AI who did not love merely because she was not capable of feeling that particular human emotion. The song is called "Android Rising", and it is the beautifully moving tale of a female AI who adopts a human female child, and is very successful as a parent. Her adopted child loves her. The fact that the AI is unable to reciprocate that emotion becomes incon
