Recent years

Hi,

Is it'Sales have fallen by 75 percent in recent years' or'Sales have faleln by 75 percent in the recent years'?

What would the difference be if both were correct?

Thanks

Mister MicawberNo 'the'.
Any reasonable reason? Is it totally incorrect to use 'the'?

What do you consider 'reasonable'? It is idiomatic: 'in recent years' = recently.
