Really + can? or can + really?

Hello,

I found this sentence in an old book about "What seems to be the trouble":

-"You may think that I'm fussy but I really can't accept this kind of thing again."

I wonder why "really" is placed before "can" - a modal verb. I think it must be placed after "can" . But I'm not sure. Please help!

Thank you!

  • If you put "really" (or its synonym "truly") before a negation, it emphasizes the negation.

If you put "really" (or its synonym "truly") before a negation, it emphasizes the negation. If you put it after the negation, it minimizes the negation.

really not ~ definitely NOT; absolutel
