Ready- made rituals for making it?

Hello everybody.

I have two questions, would you please help me?

What does make mean in the following?

This kind of proximity to death and the ready- made rituals for making it were not part of my upbringing.

And another question, what kind of ceremony is a do-it-yourself ceremony? Does it have any synonym?

Thanks for the help ??.

There is no synonym for "do-it-yourself ceremony". It's a ceremony that you do in your own way. It's the opposite of a ceremony that is traditional within a given society, where you hire people who do that kind of ceremony.
