Ready as a verb

Hi

I often read ready as a verb in Indian magazines. Is it natural among native speakers also?

Are these sentences OK?

I was readying myself for the bad news.
Ready yourself for the dinner tonight.

Thanks,

Tom

Yes, it's used by English speakers elsewhere. Get ready or prepare are more common, though.
